The 2011 Stonewall Sporthorse mare, Stonewall Calypso is the oldest of our youthful mare band, and our most accomplished performer at home. Calypso is the daughter of the imported Dutch Friesian stallion *Apollo and our celebrated producer Stonewall Fantasia, a daughter of the imported German stallion *Atlantis.
Calypso is the third of five full siblings, and the first filly of this cross. She follows the geldings Stonewall Fandango (2009) and Stonewall Durango (2010). After Calypso (2011), came Samba (2012), and Minuet (2013).
These three look-alike full sisters have 2018 foals by the imported World Champion Friesian stallion *Monte 378 (Sport) (the Netherlands).
After more than fifty years, our breeding program has established a high degree of set type, without any inbreeding. We endeavor to further establish the closest ideal of the perfect Stonewall Sporthorse by breeding these three full sisters to the same magnificent stallion, an outstanding complement to their consistent qualities.
Calypso began her career under saddle with the dressage trainer/instructor Dan Rocks, and made her ridden debut a winning one with her talented teenage rider, Tatum Baker. Calypso also began training in harness from the age of two. She has graduated to our program of training carriage drivers with disabilities.
Much of Calypso’s training, under the guidance of Michael Muir, has been performed by her devoted handler, Randie Boardman. Even with a third demanding occupation as a broodmare, Calypso has performed with distinction in numerous driving clinics and other events to prepare for her debut in the sport of combined driving in 2018. Randie will drive Calypso in able-bodied competition.
Caroline Strongman of San Franciso regularly drives Calypso. We hope to qualify Caroline for future World Championships for Drivers with Disabilities.
